Newscriticism: "Remote tribe gets hooked on internet porn" (The Telegraph, June 4th, 2024)

SUMMARY

A remote tribe (the Marubo Civilization) in Brazil has become unexpectedly hooked on internet pornography after being connected to the internet for the first time via Elon Musk's Starlink satellites. The introduction of high-speed internet aimed to improve the community’s access to education and health resources. However, the immediate impact saw the tribe members, previously isolated from such content, rapidly consuming online porn. The situation highlights the unintended consequences of introducing internet access to remote communities without proper guidance and support.

The internet connection, provided by SpaceX's Starlink, was initially celebrated for its potential to bridge the digital divide and bring essential services to the remote tribe. Nevertheless, the tribe's newfound obsession with online porn has raised concerns among anthropologists and community leaders about the cultural and social implications. They stress the need for careful management and educational programs to help such communities navigate the vast and often overwhelming world of the internet responsibly.

NEWSCRITICISM

This is the moment when the negative effects of cultural interaction is more prevalent than the positive is a cause for dangerous concern. To expose them to such things of the hypermaterialistic and hyperindividualistic civilization of the Americans is a great fatality for the Marubo, one that will see the complete erosion of thier existential identity and its elimination from the world. The negative effects had outweighed the experience in existence, far beyond the capability of existing within the developmental limits of the Marubo themselves - and when the negative becomes overwhelming, the human essence in them will be gone, and so goes their worldview; thus replacing them a soulless husk of what they are. They will become zombie-slaves to the contamination of the American civilization, which would accelerate and hasten thier downfall and extinction of thier civilization.

And thus, the Marubo - and Mankind - will be no more to live with.

And this is why I hate the so-called "Contamination of Civilizations", for when the bad aspects outweigh the civilization (and go into the process of enculturation), it will be contaminated into the negative - and thus, negative morality prevails and replaces the old culture - and another civilization will die. Actually, it is the fastest way to cause the extinction of a civilization in the modern world. The destructive contamination of civilizations is my greatest hate, the greatest of all pet peeves, for not only it causes destruction and eradication of old cultures, it also causes the erosion of the "human being": the things that make us human - the humaneness of who and what we are through our existential worldviews is the most threatening thing of all.

The Marubo need to resist against this contamination into their worldview and thier existence. It should fight against the contamination of the Western Civilization [in the Huntingtonian sense]/American Civilization [in the perspective of my theory (see Essays on Civilization for more details)] and must adapt to the new circumstances to fight it. They have to face these encrachements to thier identity in order to not succumb against the evil of contamination - the contamination of the detrimental, of the negative. They have to fight back!
